Assistant Public Safety Chief - Operations
The Assistant Public Safety Chief of Operations will assist
the Deputy Public Safety Chief in managing the operations of the Public Safety
Department, including all City law enforcement, fire suppression and prevention,
EMS community services, and criminal and narcotic investigations.
Assistant Public Safety Chief - Professional Standards
(pending City Commission approval)
The Assistant Public Safety Chief of Professional Standards
will assist the Deputy Public Safety Chief in managing the professional
standard, investigations, recruitment, services (including Information
Technology, Dispatch and Public Safety Departmental Budgetary oversight) and
training activities of the Public Safety Department. Comprehensive knowledge and
experience in criminal investigations, professional standards, internal
investigations, and investigatory principles and practices is essential.
Both Assistant Public Safety Chief positions:
- Comprehensive knowledge of and experience with Leadership
and Managerial principles;
- Law enforcement and/or fire suppression, and EMS principals
and practices;
- Budgetary principles;
- Labor relations and contract administration;
- Public Administration; Community Relations/ Community
Partnerships, public relations and employee relations; and Public Safety
rules, regulations and procedures are essential.
- Bachelor's degree in law enforcement, fire science or a
related field;
- three or more years command-level experience essential;
- Master's degree in a related field and attendance at senior
management police/fire related programs desired.
- Experience in an urban core city with a diverse economy and
demographic composition also desired.
- Michigan State Certification for Law Enforcement or ability
to obtain within 3 months; or the equivalent combination of education and
experience needed to successfully to perform the essential job functions.
- Experience in fire suppression/EMS in the State of Michigan
desired or the commitment/ability to gain certification.
