Valparaiso University, an independent,
comprehensive, Lutheran-affiliated

Chief of Police, Valparaiso University Police Department.
Located 50 miles from Chicago in northwest Indiana, the University enrolls
approximately 4,000 students, including approximately 900 graduate and law
students.
The Valparaiso University Police Department is a certified law enforcement
agency with state granted arrest powers. The Chief of Police reports directly to
the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
Position Description:
- direct the day to day operation and administration of the
Valparaiso University Police Department;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with
campus constituencies;
- foster a cooperative climate for compliance;
- enforce laws, policies, and procedures established to
protect persons and property; and
- serve as liaison to appropriate enforcement agencies.
Position Requirements:
- 10-15 years of law enforcement experience;
- knowledge of laws, rules, codes, and practices relevant to
safety
and security operations in an educational facility;
- excellent collaboration, communication, and conflict
management/resolution skills; and
- budget management experience.
A bachelors degree and FBI National Academy training is
preferred.
