The Speedway Police Department is currently accepting pre-applications for the position of Merit Police Officer. The Speedway Police Department is interested in establishing an eligibility list for future anticipated openings. The position of Merit Police Officer will be offered to the best candidate(s) who are successful in the following testing areas:

  •  A written exam and physical agility assessment held on Saturday, October 24th, 2020.
  •  Oral interviews to be held on November 11th, 12th and 13th, 2020.
  •  A polygraph, background investigation, and Chief’s interview, all occurring in late-November and early-December, 2020.


Eligible applicants will be between the ages of 21 and 35 at the time of appointment and have a minimum of a high school diploma.

 Speedway Police Department offers competitive wages, with starting salary between $51,662 and $66,991 (commensurate with experience), along with a benefits package that includes paid vacation, sick time, and holiday bonus pay. Speedway Police Department is a member of the PERF Police Officer’s and Firefighter’s Fund (1977 Fund).

Speedway Police Department will also be accepting applications for lateral entry. Current ILEA graduates or LEO’s with a state/federal certification through ILEA’s waiver requirement will be considered for benefits commensurate with current years of service.
